Ohio is headed to Fargo with an assortment of ranked wrestlers and returning All-Americans who are seeking spots high on the podium.
After taking the freestyle 16U National Dual title and finishing as the runner-up in the Junior National Duals, Team Ohio is looking to improve on their finishes from last year in Fargo. Hammers To Watch
#9 Marcus Blaze (16U/120) — After finishing fourth last year in Fargo, Blaze had an excellent freshman season. He won an Ironman title last fall at 113 pounds, and most recently decided to bump up to the Junior Division for the Junior National Duals where he finished 5-1 with a win over #20 Cooper Hilton and his only loss coming to #1 Nate Jesuroga. Blaze is another young hammer in the mix in what should be a loaded weight class at 120 pounds in the 16U Division.
#13 Dillon Campbell (Junior/126) — A returning Fargo All-American, Campbell won his second Ohio state championship this past season in dominant fashion. Campbell most recently took out #15 Landon Robideau in the NHSCA Dual Championship match to help lead Team Shutt to the title last month. After finishing sixth last year in the 16U Division, expect Campbell to be right in the mix to win a stop sign this year in Fargo.
#13 Tyler Lillard (Junior/160) — Despite falling in the blood round last year in Fargo, Lillard has continued to improve throughout his wrestling career. The Indiana commit won his first Ohio state championship this season and most recently finished 6-1 at the Junior National Duals. Lillard will be looking to claim his first Fargo All-American honor before beginning his college career in the fall.
#16 Luke Vanadia (Junior/182) — For just the second time in history, three brothers became Fargo All-Americans in the same year as Luke Vanadia joined his brothers Ben and Max to accomplish the feat in 2021. Vanadia most recently finished 6-2 at the Junior National Duals. After falling to Camden McDanel in the finals of Fargo in the 16U Divison last year, Luke Vanadia will be making the move up to Juniors and will be looking to capture his first Fargo title.
#11 Camden McDanel (Junior/195) — McDanel was a Fargo champion last year at 182 pounds in the 16U Division after taking out a fellow Ohio wrestler in Luke Vanadia in the finals. McDanel, a two-time state finalist, also won an NHSCA National title in 2021.
Up-And-Coming Prospects Who Need To Be On Your Radar
HM Javaan Yarbrough (Junior/100) — After winning a Fargo title at 88 pounds in freestyle and a finishing second in Greco-Roman in the 16U division in 2021, Yarbrough is back to defend this title, this time up in the Junior division. Yarbrough is coming off an excellent performance at the Junior National Duals, where he finished 7-0 and helped lead Ohio to a runner-up finish.
#9 Ethan Birden (Junior/152) — As a sophomore, Birden had a strong folkstyle season. He placed sixth at Ironman and won his second Ohio state medal after dropping a 1-0 match to #8 Joey Blaze to finish as the state runner-up. Despite not competing in Fargo in 2021, expect Birden to be right in the mix to make the podium.
HM Tyrel Miller (16U/160) — Despite going 1-2 in Fargo in 2021, Miller seems to have made significant improvements in his international styles over the last year. Most recently, he was impressive at the 16U National Duals where he finished 7-1 and helped lead Team Ohio to a National Duals title.
#11 Carter Neves (Junior/220) — After finishing fourth in 2021 in the 16U Divison at 195 pounds in Fargo, the sophomore will be moving up to the Junior Division this year. Neves dominated his way to an Ohio state championship this season and most recently finished 6-1 at the Junior National Duals with his only loss coming to #9 Kolby Franklin.
