Janida Garcia And Valerie Hamilton Set For Who's Number One
A U17 World silver medalist will face a Junior National champion at Who’s Number One on September 9.
Valerie Hamilton is fresh off a silver medal performance in the 61 kg division at the U17 Worlds in Rome.
Janida Garcia is fresh off winning the 132-pound title at Junior Nationals in Fargo.
The two will meet at 132 pounds in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on September 9 to decide who is number one.
Hamilton (Gridley, Illinois) won U17 Nationals with a pair of falls in the best-of-three finals before her medal run in Rome. She placed second at 121 pounds at 16U Nationals last year and was a 2018 U15 Pan-American champion. Hamilton is entering her junior year at El Paso-Gridley High School.
Garcia (Lathrop, California) finished third at Junior Nationals last year and third at U20 Nationals this year. She is a 2020 USA Wrestling Preseason National champion and a 2022 Recruiting Showcase champion. Garcia will be a senior at Discovery High School in Colorado after attending Central Catholic High School in California.
