A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Shaw was a WPIAL champion and a two time all state wrestler in the Hershey state. Shaw came out of high school compiling a varsity record of 88-11. As a true freshman, Shaw put together a 15-5 record at 184 pounds winning the Pembroke and Newberry opens.
