With a number of toss-up matches throughout, this is sure to be an exciting dual from start to finish. Take a look below for a full breakdown of every match along with my predictions.
125: #14 Noah Surtin, Missouri vs Kyle Golhoffer, UNI
Noah Surtin was one match away from All-American honors last season and will be a big favorite in this match against Golhoffer. Surtin is coming off a second-place finish at the Southern Scuffle where he notably defeated #16 Trevor Mastrogiovanni. Golhoffer has struggled this year with a 3-7 record and has yet to notch a win over any ranked wrestler. Look for Surtin to control this match and look for some all-important bonus points.
Prediction: Surtin by major
Team score prediction: Missouri 4, Northern Iowa 0
133: HM Connor Brown, Missouri vs #15 Kyle Biscoglia, UNI
Kyle Biscoglia is off to a great start this season highlighted by a third-place finish at the 2022 CKLV and ranked wins over #17 Jason Shaner, #11 Chris Cannon, and #5 Dylan Ragusin. Connor Brown is only 6-5 on the year and hasn’t yet defeated a ranked wrestler. Despite being the underdog, Brown has lost all of his matches by 4 points or less and hardly ever gives up bonus points. Biscoglia is a favorite in this bout but we should expect the match to be competitive from beginning to end.
Prediction: Biscoglia by decision
Team score prediction: Missouri 4, Northern Iowa 3
Biscoglia's win over 2-time All-American Chris Cannon:
141: #9 Allan Hart, Missouri vs #7 Cael Happel, UNI
Top ten matchup time! Allan Hart and Cael Happel last wrestled in December of 2021 where Happel came out on top of a close, 9-7 match. In that bout, Hart got out to a 5-2 lead with two takedowns in the first and an escape in the second. However, Happel stormed back in the second and third periods with 3 straight takedowns to complete the comeback win. Will Happel’s conditioning prove to be the difference again in this matchup or will Hart make the necessary changes to get revenge?
Prediction: Happel by decision
Team score prediction: Missouri 4, Northern Iowa 6
Happel’s win over Hart from last season:
149: #9 Brock Mauller, Missouri vs #14 Colin Realbuto, UNI
Two-time All-American Brock Mauller is back in Missouri's starting lineup after redshirting last year. Mauller is 7-1 on the year with ranked wins over #19 Kellyn March, #11 Caleb Henson, #24 Sam Hillegas, and #17 Dom Demas. Mauller has never wrestled Realbuto but is sure to be in for a challenge on Sunday. Realbuto has notched notable wins on the season over #4 Sammy Sasso, #15 Jackson Arrington, and #19 Kellyn March. Realbuto looks to be a legitimate All-American threat and the match against Mauller will be another excellent test for him on the season.
Prediction: Mauller by decision
Team score prediction: Missouri 7. Northern Iowa 6
157: #11 Jarrett Jacques, Missouri vs Derek Holschlag, UNI
While there’s a large ranking separation between Derek Holschlag and Jarrett Jacques, we should expect a competitive and close match on Sunday. The two have wrestled twice in their college careers with Jacques coming out on top in both matches - 3-1 in overtime last year at Big 12’s and 4-2 last December in the dual. We should expect a similarly close match in this dual with Jacques as the slight favorite.
Prediction: Jacques by decision
Team score prediction: Missouri 10, Northern Iowa 6
Jacques' win over Holschlga from last season:
165: #1 Keegan O’Toole, Missouri vs #14 Austin Yant, UNI
2022 National Champion Keegan O’Toole has picked up where he left off last season and is currently 8-0 on the year with bonus wins in 5 of his matches. However, Northern Iowa’s Austin Yant has quietly moved up the rankings with a 10-0 record on the year with bonus wins in 6 of his matches. O’Toole is certainly the favorite but he notably sat out the Southern Scuffle. Is he 100% and will Yant be able to keep the match close? We’ll likely get answers to those questions on Sunday.
Prediction: O’Toole by major
Team score prediction: Missouri 14, Northern Iowa 6
O'Toole's win over Dean Hamiti at the 2022 NWCA All-Star Classic:
174: #9 Peyton Mocco, Missouri vs #12 Lance Runyon, UNI
The match at 174 is another “toss-up” match that could ultimately determine the outcome of the dual. Mocco and Runyon last met 2 years ago when Mocco came out on top in a close, 9-6 bout. Both Mocco and Runyon are looking to earn the first All-American honors of their career and it's not too far of a stretch to imagine these two meeting in the round of 12 at this year’s NCAA tournament.
Prediction: Mocco by decision
Team score prediction: Missouri 17, Northern Iowa 6
184: HM Sean Harman/Colton Hawks, Missouri vs #2 Parker Keckeisen, UNI
Parker Keckeisen worked his way back to #2 in the country with a pin over Trent Hidlay and will be a big favorite over Sean Harman on Sunday. Harman is only 9-5 on the year and most recently failed to place at the Southern Scuffle losing to Sam Fisher and HM Deanthony Parker. Keckeisen will likely push for bonus points in this match that could prove to be ultra-important to the outcome of the dual.
Prediction: Keckeisen by tech
Team score prediction: Missouri 17, Northern Iowa 11
Hear Parker Keckeisen talk about his passion for wrestling:
197: #1 Rocky Elam, Missouri vs Noah Glaser, UNI
Where Northern Iowa is a big favorite at 184, Missouri might be an even bigger favorite at 197. Rocky Elam is the #1 ranked wrestler in the country at 197 pounds and is currently undefeated on the year at 4-0. On top of that, all four of his wins are over ranked wrestlers in #22 Andy Smith, #20 Kordell Norfleet, #16 Owen Pentz, and #6 Jacob Warner. Glaser, on the other hand, is only 5-5 and has lost 3 of his last 4 matches by bonus points. Elam isn’t the most dynamic bonus-point scorer in the country but he should be able to earn a major in this match.
Prediction: Elam by major
Team score prediction: Missouri 21, Northern Iowa 11
285: #8 Zach Elam, Missouri vs #13 Tyrell Gordon, UNI
Tyrell Gordon and Zach Elam have met only once in their college careers - early last season when Elam won 5-2. In that match, Elam used takedowns in the second and third periods to separate himself from Gordon for the victory.
This year, Gordon is turning some heads with his notable wins over Tate Orndorff (2) and AJ Nevills. Gordon looks to have made notable improvements and his match against Elam will be another great test to show off those improvements. Elam is coming off a first-place finish at the Southern Scuffle but didn’t wrestle anyone ranked in the top 20. I’m predicting Gordon will stay hot and knock off Elam but Gordon is still the underdog entering this bout.
Prediction: Gordon by decision
Team score prediction: Missouri 21, Northern Iowa 14
Elam’s win over Gordon last season:
I’ve predicted Missouri to win 6 of the 10 matches and secure valuable bonus points at 125, 165, and 197. If Northern Iowa hopes to win this dual, they’ll need to hold those matches to regular decisions and win at least 2 swing matches at 149, 157, and 285. Regardless of how this dual goes down, with so many ranked matchups it’s sure to be exciting from sta
