Americans Spencer Lee (57 kg) reached the finals while Aaron Brooks (86 kg), and Helen Maroulis (57 kg) will wrestle for bronze. Former Michigan star Myles Amine lost to Iranian superstar Hassan Yazdani in the 86 kg semifinals.

Semifinals 

MFS 57 kg: Rei Higuchi (Japan) tech Aman Sehrawat (India), 10-0

First period: Higuchi hits an arm throw in the first 40 seconds to take a 4-0 lead. Higuchi hits a sweep single for a two-point takedown and a 6-0 lead with 1:47 left. Higuchi hits a low single, pops the head, and secures a takedown and trapped arm gut for a 10-0 tech in 2:14.

MFS 57 kg: Spencer Lee (United States) tech Gulomjon Abdullaev (Uzbekistan), 14-4

First period: Lee hits a head to the inside single for a two-point takedown with 1:42 left. Lee scores on a seatbelt, gets a takedown and finishes the match with three straight turns. Uzbekistan challenges the call. Challenge won. The match continues with Lee ahead 10-4 but Lee ends it immediately with a takedown and a turn for a 14-4 win and a spot in the gold medal finals. 

MFS 86 kg: Magomed Ramazanov (Bulgaria) over Aaron Brooks (United States), 4-3 

First period: Ramazanov goes on the activity clock with 1:06 left. Brooks scores the first point on an activity clock violation for a 1-0 lead. Brooks scores a straight double with 11 seconds left for a 3-0 lead at the break. 

Second period: Brooks hits a single but Ramazanov counters out during a lengthy scramble. No points. Brooks hits a single but Ramazanov stuffs the head and scores a takedown but Brooks fights off a brutal bent-leg Turk. Brooks leads, 3-2, with 1:06. Brooks has a low single as Ramazanov dumps Brooks to his back for two at the buzzer for a 4-3 win. Ramazanov earns a spot in the gold medal finals with a last-second exposure. 

MFS 86 kg: Hassan Yazdani (Iran) over Myles Amine (San Marino), 7-1 

First period: Amine scores first on a step-out. Yazdani strikes back with two step-outs, a single-leg takedown, and a trap-leg turn for a 6-1 lead. 

Second period: Yazdani scores a step-out with an underhook for a 7-1 lead. Yazdani loses a low single but maintains his 7-1 lead with 1:03 left. Yazdani wins and will wrestle for a second gold medal against Ramazanov. 

WFS 57 kg: Tsugumi Sakurai (Japan) over Helen Maroulis (United States), 10-4

First period: Maroulis takes an inside trip attempt and runs it down to a takedown for a 2-0 lead. Sakurai caught Maroulis on a stepback to an inside pick for four points to take a 4-2 lead at the break. 

Second period: Sakurai hits a single and eventually scores and transitions to a leg lace. Sakurai gets another two-point takedown then arm-bars Maroulis but doesn't get any exposure points. Marouilis scores a reversal but Sakurai wins, 10-4. 

WFS 57 kg: Anastasia Nichita (Moldova) FALL Kexin Hong (China), 1:37

First period: Hong hits a sweep single and scores the first takedown and a fleeing call for a 3-0 lead. Hong scores a trapped arm gut and Nichita counters on the second attempt for two points and has Hong on her back before eventually securing the fall. 

Medal Matches

MGR 67 kg Bronze - Hasrat Jafarov (Azerbaijan) tech Amantur Ismailov (Kyrgyzstan), 8-0

First period: Jafarov scored early and often for an 8-0 tech and the 67 kg bronze medal. 

MGR 67 kg Bronze - Luis Orta (Cuba) over Slavik Galstyan (Armenia), 7-0 

First period: Orta scores the first two on a body lock for a 2-0 lead. Orta gets a passivity point and scores two points on the exposure for a 5-0 lead. 

Second period: Orta adds to his lead with a two-point takedown but can't secure a turn. Orta scores a point for a step-out but Armenia challenges the call. Successful challenge. No point and the score is 7-0. Time runs out and Orta wins, 7-0.

MGR 67 kg Gold - Saeid Esmaeili (Iran) over Pavriz Nasibov (Ukraine), 6-5 

First period: Nasibov gets two exposure points and another point for passivity for a 3-0 lead. 

Second period: Esmaeili is on fire off the whistle for an explosive takedown but doesn't secure a turn. Nasibov leads, 3-2. Esmaeili scores a third point on passivity for a 3-3 criteria lead. Nasibov scores two on an arm drag but Esmaeili scores on a counter exposure to take a 5-5 criteria lead. Challenge by Ukraine. Challenge lost. Esmaeili leads 6-5 with a minute left. Esmaeili holds on and wins gold, 6-5.

MGR 87 kg Bronze - Zhan Beleniuk (Ukraine) over Arkadiusz Kulynycz (Poland), 3-1

First period: Kulynycz secures a passivity point but doesn't score off a chest wrap. 

Second period: Beleniuk takes a 1-1 lead on a passivity point. Beleniuk scores a gut out of bonds for a 3-1 lead. Kulynycz gets a second chance in par terre but doesn't get a passivity point. No points from par terre. Beleniuk wins, 3-1, for his third Olympic medal. 

MGR 87 kg Bronze - Turpal Bisultanov (Denmark) over David Losonczi (Hungary), 2-1 

MGR 87 kg Gold - Semen Novikov (Bulgaria) over Alireza Mohmadipiani (Iran), 7-0 

First period: Novikov scores first on passivity and gets a lift for two. 

Second period: Novikov adds two more and one for a step-out for a 6-0 lead. Iran challenges. Challenge not accepted and the score remains 6-0. Another step-out makes it 7-0. Novikov wins the gold, 7-0.

WFS 53 kg Bronze - Annika Wendle (Germany) vs Hyo Gyong Choe (North Korea)

First period: Choe hits a single but Wendle is writhing in pain in the center of the mat after the shot. Choe gets two for the takedown and Wendle continues but is placed down with 2:37 left. Choe scores another takedown for a 4-0 lead. A go-behind makes it 6-0. Another takedown makes it 8-0. And another gives Choe a 10-0 tech and the bronze medal. 

WFS 53 kg Bronze - Qianyu Pang (China) FALL Khulan Batkhuyag (Mongolia)

First period: Pang blows through on a four-point double leg takedown to start the match. Khulan fires back but Pang reverses the position and gets the fall for a bronze. 

WFS 53 kg Gold - Akari Fujinami (Japan) tech Lucia Yepez (Ecuador), 10-0

First period: Fujinami hits a low single but Yepez defends and the action is brought to neutral. Fujinamp scores on a low shot for a 2-0 lead. Fujinami takes a mid-level shot and scores low for a 4-0 lead. Fujinami shelves the leg and scores another two-point takedown. 

Second period: Fujinami hits a single and switches to a double and almost scores on a lace but the action was blown dead. Fujinami scores on a go-behind for a 10-0 tech and a gold medal.
