Battle at the Broncs

Battle at the Broncs

Info
The 3rd Annual Battle at the Broncs youth wrestling tournament is designed to give all of the wrestlers quality matches regardless of their skill level. We use a Madison-weight block-bracketing system (no actual weight classes), age group, and self-assessed skill rating to group the wrestlers. The goal is to generate 3- or 4-man round robin brackets so that each wrestler faces relatively even competition. Please be honest and reasonable when entering the skill-level; the goal is to create brackets with evenly matched competition, not a bracket where one wrestler dominates all others, or where one wrestler gets pounded all day. No system is perfect but we have run tournaments of this nature in the past and find it is one of the best ways to help all wrestlers get some quality mat time and improve their overall skills. The skill rating we will use is `Beginner` for wrestlers who have NO PRIOR wrestling experience before this season; `Average` is for wrestlers of moderate skill and/or moderate experience; `Excellent` is for more experienced or highly skilled wrestlers. All wrestlers get weighed-in the morning of the tournament (multiple scales to speed the process) and then get treated to a free clinic by members of the outstanding Rider University Division I coaching staff. By the time the clinic is over, the computer operations will have the brackets prepared and wrestling will commence at (or very close to) 10am. Food and beverage concessions will be available throughout the day. A valid USA Wrestling card or membership number is required for participation in the tournament. If you do not already have a card for this year, you can purchase them at the tournament for $35 (cash only please). Cards can be purchased online through USA Wrestling but the online fee is actually higher. Cards purchased now are valid through August of 2014 allowing you to enter other USA Wrestling sponsored/sanctioned events and providing valuable accident/injury insurance while participating the events.
