Developmental Wrestling Division
The developmental wrestling division was started in 2013-14 in order to help new wrestlers acclimate to the sport. Wrestling is a very physically and emotionally demanding sport, and it can be quite difficult for a new wrestler to learn the sport without becoming discouraged. The purpose of this division is to help new wrestlers exhibit what they have learned in practice, learn the fundamentals of a wrestling tournament, and strengthen the gametime dynamic with their coaches without having to compete against kids with several years of experience. It is NOT a division to help wrestlers build confidence or get extra wins.
Most wrestlers that can be placed in this division are first year wrestlers. Some wrestlers may develop more quickly than others. The league may determine that a wrestler may need to wrestle in the premier division regardless of years wrestled. The league may also determine that a second or third year wrestler may still need the services of the developmental league. If a coach feels they have experienced wrestlers that still require the developmental division, they can send names to the league for approval.
The developmental division will be grouped in weight and age round robin brackets in an effort to provide each developing wrestler 3 matches. Every effort will be made to expose the wrestler to different challengers each week. All folkstyle matches will be three one minute periods regardless of age. Awards for this division will be custom ribbons.
