Make sure you enter all seeding/separation criteria for all wrestlers in all divisions. JV actual weights (not weight class) need to be entered to help group jv wrestlers. We will use this weight to build brackets. We are happy to bring you the 24th annual Warrior Invitational! As we did last year, we will adjust bracket types based upon the number of wrestlers in a given weight class in order to give wrestlers as many matches as possible in this early season competition. One of our goals for the Warrior Invitational is to allow teams to bring their Junior Varsity wrestlers to the same tournament. This year, our JV tournament will be an 8-person scramble type format, giving each wrestler 4 matches. JV?s will be paired by weight (we will not follow NFHS set weight classes), with the goal to keep kids from the same school separated. We will be having on site weigh-ins for JV?s, coaches are required to enter JV weights when registering their teams in order to facilitate an earlier start to wrestling. JV?s will then still have to weigh in the morning of the tournament, All JV wrestlers should be within 2 pounds of the weight that the coach enters for each individual. We will also run an All-Girls Division which will be run in conjunction with the varsity event. In order to promote and expand the sport of wrestling for girls, we request that all girls not completing in the varsity event, to be registered in the girls division. The girls will be grouped into the following weight classes - 100, 107, 114, 120, 126, 132, 145, 152, 165 185 and 235. The Girls Division will be an individual, folkstyle tournament format with round robin/scramble type brackets to get wrestlers up to 5 matches if numbers permit. The Waunakee Wrestling Community is trying to build on our traditions in our favorite sport and to that end, we are committed to making continuous improvements to our tournament. Here are some of the things we do to try to make this tournament a great wrestling and fan experience: Integration with Trackwrestling (Both Varsity/Girls and JV Events) Mat side scoring - (All stats will be updated as the matches are happening). If you as a coach use Trackwrestling?s stats program there is no need to re-enter data. We have done it for you. Live Dashboard ? If your fans are not able to attend our event, they will be able to watch the matches unfold live with Trackwrestling?s Dashboard. Just log into www.trackwrestling.com and select our event to follow the matches as they happen. Next available display ? We will be having a next available mat display letting all wrestlers know when they are coming up and what mat they will be on. This is what the WIAA State Tournament uses. Awards Varsity Team Champions & Runner up Trophy ? Team scores built into Trackwrestling will determine the team champion Varsity Outstanding Wrestler Award ? This award will be voted on by the coaches at the end of the tournament (1 vote per team). Custom Warrior Invitational Medals ? will be given to 1st ? 3rd place finishers at each weight class for varsity, girls and JV divisions. If you do not receive any trackwrestling information contact Mark Natzke at marknatzke@waunakee.k12.wi.us or Kayla Spurley at spurleyka@gmail.com. Deadline for entering wrestlers into trackwrestling will be Thursday night at 10 PM. No additions after this. You may replace a wrestler in the varsity tournament up until weigh-ins. We will then look to try to fill all Varsity weight classes to 12 participants with Varsity reserve / JV wrestlers. If you have a JV wrestler that you believe would benefit from wrestling in the varsity tournament you can send that information to Coach Natzke during the week (marknatzke@waunakee.k12.wi.us). If that individual would be better served to wrestle in the varsity tournament we will make those accommodations to add them to the varsity tournament. Any JV wrestlers added to the varsity tournament will be required to weigh-in with the varsity. If you have a wrestler you would like to be considered for the varsity tournament you can send the information in early and we will start a list. A call to mat system through Trackwrestling will be utilized to assign mats. Wrestlers will need to refer to mat assignment displays being projected. All periods will be 2 minutes in length. All wrestlers will get 1 additional pound allowance on Saturday. Waunakee has a match on Friday night. Please confirm to Coach Natzke that you received this information. Varsity/Girls Warrior Invitational Format Varsity / Girls Schedule (Round start times subject to change) We will start rounds earlier if we can and will have continuous wrestling throughout the day. Weigh-Ins 8:00 AM Coaches/Seed meeting 8:20 AM Round 1 & 2* 9:30 AM Round 3 12:45 PM Break 30 minutes Round 4* 2:30 PM Round 5* 3:45 PM Round 6 4:30 PM * 5 minute break @ end ** In the event of an 18-person bracket, this bracket(s) will be the first matches to be wrestled in each of the first 3 rounds, and the 18-person 4th round will be wrestled prior to the lunch break. Weigh-ins/skin check: Varsity wrestlers will weigh-in in the old auditorium at 8:00 AM. Girls will weigh-in in the old gym at 8:00 AM. Coaches Seeding Meeting: Coaches meeting & seeding meeting for Varsity will begin immediately after weigh-ins are finished in the coaches hospitality room. There will be no seeded meeting for the girls division but girls coaches are welcome to enjoy the hospitality room. Varsity Bracketing The desired bracket for this tournament is the 12 Man Scramble Format 2.3 Place 12 bracket type found in Trackwrestling. You?ll note that 20 teams have been invited to try to ensure full brackets to the greatest extent possible. If a weight class has less than 12 participants we will insert any JV wrestlers who would be interested and capable in wrestling in the varsity tournament. Prior to the seeding meeting the coach must nominate the wrestler who will be considered the scoring wrestler for team score purposes. In the event that there are more than 12 entries at a single weight class, either a 16 Man Scramble Format 2 or a 18 Man Scramble Format 3.1 Place 18 bracket will be used for that weight class. If unable to fill a weight class we will use the following formats. Brackets with 9-10 wrestlers will use a 10 Man Scramble Format 2 Place 10 format. Brackets with 7-8 wrestlers will use an 8 Man Scramble Format 2 format. Brackets with 6 or fewer wrestlers will use a round robin format. Team scoring has been set up to include only activity points and placement points (no advancement points). Regardless of the bracket type, placement points will be the same for all weight classes. For this reason, teams will undoubtedly begin the tournament with a team score above zero, before any wrestling takes place. This is expected, not an error. Girls Bracketing Bracket type will be based upon the number of entrants is each weight class as follows: Brackets with 9-16 wrestlers will use a 16 Man Scramble Format 1 format Brackets with 6-8 wrestlers will use an 8 Man Scramble Format 4 format Brackets with 3-5 wrestlers will use a Round Robin Format Brackets with 2 wrestlers will use a Best of Three Format Varsity / Girls Mat Assignments All Varsity / Girls matches will be wrestled in the field house. We anticipate using only Mats 1-4 for the first 3 rounds. JV wrestlers will occupy Mats 5 and 6 during the first three rounds. After round 3, varsity / girls wrestlers will utilize 5 or 6 field house mats. Girls matches will conclude prior to the varsity final round. Varsity - All first place matches will be wrestled on the Mat 2 and third place matches on Mat 1. Remaining placement matches will be computer assigned to Mats 3-6. All finals matches will be run continuously. Awards will be given at the conclusion of all wrestling. Junior Varsity Warrior Invitational Format JV Schedule: Skin Check & Weigh in 7:45 AM (Upstairs in back hallway) Coaches meeting 8:00 AM (in hospitality Room) Round 1 8:45 AM (6 mats) Round 2 10:00 AM (4 mats) Round 3 12:00 PM (3-4 mats) Break 30 minutes 2:00 PM (will break at same time as varsity ) Round 4 2:30 PM (2-3 mats) Weigh-ins/skin check: JV wrestlers will weigh-in the day of the event at 7:45 AM. Due to WIAA rules we have to have weigh-ins the morning of the event. To speed things up and get wrestling started early we want coaches to enter JV wrestler weights on Friday. Only pre-registered JV wrestlers will be allowed to wrestle. (Wrestlers will need to be no more than 2 pounds over the weight that is entered by the coach. It is recommended that you enter a weight that the kids normally weighs during the course of the week and not their lowest weight.) Coaches you need to accompany your team to JV weigh-ins. After your team has weighed in you will proceed to the head table with your weigh in sheet and confirm weights are accurate with the head table. JV Bracketing Coaches will need to rank the wrestlers: (Varsity caliber, good, average, beginner). We will pre-group the tournament ahead of time based on these rankings. We will try to keep wrestlers from the same school from meeting in the first few rounds but we cannot guarantee that wrestlers from the same school will not meet in the later rounds. All JV wrestlers will need their actual weights entered when they are registered. This weight will be used to build the brackets before all the school arrive so that we can get wrestling started on time. The desired bracket for JV?s will be 8 Man Scramble Format 4 format. Brackets with 5 or less wrestlers will wrestle round robins. The goal is to get wrestlers 4 matches. During the first round, JV wrestlers will compete on Mats 1?6 in the field house. For subsequent rounds JV matches will be wrestled in both the old gym and the field house. Wrestlers and coaches must pay close attention to the mat assignment board for each match location. For rounds 2 and 3, the old gym and field house mats 5 & 6 will be utilized. All remaining JV matches are planned to be wrestled in the old gym. We may utilize mats in the Fieldhouse if the JV tournament is behind the varsity tournament. `
