TO: Head Wrestling Coach and/or Athletic Director FROM: Josh Lowe, Bison Kickoff Classic Tournament Director; Ryan Peters, Director of Athletics, Beachwood City Schools RE: 2014 Bison Kickoff Wrestling Classic/Ron Madow Memorial Wrestling Tournament DATE/TIME/LOCATION OF EVENT The Bison Kickoff Wrestling Classic/Ron Madow Memorial Wrestling Tournament will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Beachwood High School (South Gym); 25100 Fairmount Blvd, Beachwood OH 44122. Wrestling will commence at 10AM. Please enter through the doors to the South Gym. DAY OF TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE 8:00 AM -> weigh-ins *Please be at the school prior to the start of weigh-ins, as weigh-ins will start on time as scheduled* 9:20 AM -> coaches’ meeting (brackets will be presented at that time) 10:00 AM -> wrestling commences on three mats NOTE #1: The tournament will run continuously until the final placement round. At that point, a break of approximately 20-30 minutes will occur. There will then be a tribute to Mr. Ron Madow followed by matches for first, third, and fifth place. NOTE #2: Due to different events in other parts of the building, it is important that wrestlers, parents and coaches stay within the gymnasium. Please remind your wrestlers not to wander around the high school building/area. TEAMS COMPETING Austintown-Fitch, Beachwood, (Medina) Buckeye, Columbia, Fairview, Garrettsville Garfield, John Adams, Revere, and Shaker Hts. CONTRACT AND FEES All teams in the field have turned in their contract. For those teams yet to pay their entry fee, the entry fee for this year’s event is $300. Entry fee checks should be payable to the Beachwood City Schools with a note indicating Kickoff Classic at the bottom in the memo section. They should be mailed to the following address: Beachwood High School, ATTN: Ryan Peters (Athletic Director), Beachwood Athletic Department 25100 Fairmount Blvd., Beachwood OH 44122 • Checks must be received prior to weigh ins or your team will not be permitted to weigh in. OFFICIALS Jim Behrens (Head Official), Thomas Rutledge, Michael Adkins, David Detec, Joshua Ebbert, David Kalina. AWARDS Placement and award recognition will be given to the top four finishers in each weight class. All awards will be given out upon the completion of the final placement matches. The following awards will be given: top four finishers per weight class, team champion and runner-up, as well as the Most Outstanding Wrestler and the Wrestler with Pins in the least amount of time. SEEDING CRITERIA Up to six wrestlers will be seeded in each weight class. Pool A gets the 1st, 4th, and 5th seeds; Pool B the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th seeds. Criteria are as follows: (1) State tournament place in 2014 (2) District tournament place in 2014, top 4 (3) District tournament place in 2014, 5th or 6th (4) Bison Kickoff Wrestling Classic champion in 2013 (5) Sectional tournament place in 2013, 1st or 2nd (6) Bison Kickoff Wrestling Classic second place in 2013 (7) Season record for 2013-2014, minimum of 8 matches (>= 60% win percentage) (8) Bison Kickoff Wrestling Classic third place in 2013 (9) Sectional tournament place in 2014, 3rd or 4th Criteria tiebreaker is the next level. Criteria #7 tiebreaker will be wins The above criteria chart supersedes the sort done by the online entry system. NOTE: There will be no seeding meeting. The online registration process will be used to determine seeds. USE OF EXTRA WRESTLERS Please register all wrestlers that you wish to possibly compete in the tournament into the online system, both starters and extras. If the wrestler is not entered in the online registration, they are not eligible to compete in the tournament. There will be no weight class changes after the registration deadline. In the interests of efficiency and elimination of bracketing errors, allocation of extras will be done on Friday night (please check online before going to bed in order to see the tentative field). The primary purpose of the extras is to create even weight classes per the formats listed above (i.e. having 6, 8, or 10 wrestlers in a weight). Allocation of extras will be done at the discretion of the tournament director -- in the most reasonable and equitable way possible. ONLINE ENTRY SYSTEM A PowerPoint slide show demonstrating how to use TrackWrestling is enclosed. The deadline for completing registration of your team will be 2:00 PM on Friday, December 5th. A subsequent e-mail will be sent to each school’s head coach and/or athletic director with their username and password combination to enter their lineups in via TrackWrestling. HOSPITALITY ROOM There hospitality room will be located just outside of the gymnasium. This room is for coaches, officials, and tournament workers only. No wrestlers are permitted in the hospitality room. The only meal to be served will be lunch, and there will be additional light snacks as well. CONCESSION STAND The concession stand will be located by the entrance to the South Gym, and will be in operation starting 30 minutes prior to wrestling through the end of the tournament (10 AM to close). TOURNAMENT ADMISSION/GUEST PASSES All Wrestlers competing in the tournament need to check in upon arrival to Beachwood High School. Each school will be permitted four coaching/guest passes. Coaches/Guests need to check in at the main gate when arriving. When submitting your team roster, let us know the name of your coaches/guest that should be added to the guest list (please limit it to only 4). “Passes” allowing free admission will be granted to the following: all team members and four coaches. Admission for the day will be $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students. Children under 3 will be allowed in for free.
