Frank Dobbs Memorial K-5 Wrestling Tournament Sponsored by the Friends of Melrose (All brackets are competitive) Pre-registration Only Raffle: All competing wrestlers will be entered into a raffle for a bike or home wrestling mat. Date: Friday, February 14, 2020 Place: Melrose-Mindoro High School [Enter at the field house entrance.] Pre-registration Only (Absolutely no walk-ins will be allowed.): You must pre-register (including your weight) online before the deadline Thursday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. Weights can be updated anytime up to the 7:00 p.m. deadline. Tournament managers around the state have recommended registering early and updating your wrestler?s weight as the deadline approaches. This will secure your spot and list an accurate weight. Because discrepancies can occur, a wrestler can be allowed a 2 lb weight allowance. If you are over by more than 2 pounds, you will forfeit your matches with no refund given. Please be accurate. Pre-registration will be completed on Trackwrestling. Check In: 4:00 ? 5:15 Wrestling Begins: 5:45 Divisions: K-1st / 2nd ? 3rd / 4th ? 5th Entry Fee: $15 fee - a permission slip will be signed online with your preregistration. (No USA card is required.) Spectator Fee: Adults $3, Children and Students Free Concessions: Hot food and snacks will be served throughout the tournament. Medical Personnel: The First Responders will be on duty throughout the tournament. Awards: (champion ? trophy / 2nd & 3rd medals / 4th Ribbon Tournament Format Coaching at Matside: To provide the best atmosphere for the youngest wrestlers, two coaching chairs will be placed in each corner. A third person can sit on the floor. (Our coaches, parents, and fans have been very respectful of this rule. It makes all the difference in providing a positive experience for our youngest athletes.) Grades K ? 5 Brackets 1) Wrestlers will be bracketed in a 4-man round robin format. 2) Each match will consist of three one-minute periods. 3) Each period will begin with the wrestlers on their feet. Tie Breaker Procedure Ties will proceed directly to a single 30 second sudden-victory period from the mat. The choice will be given to the wrestler who wins the flip. No Headlock Rule: Headlocks used as a takedown or as a pinning combination will be treated as a potentially dangerous hold. If a wrestler uses the position on his feet, the match will be stopped then restarted. If a wrestler is in a pinning combination and the maneuver ends up in a headlock position, pin points will be awarded (so long as pinning criteria has been met) and the wrestlers will be restarted from the down position. Note: A front headlock is a legal technique.
