It was after a 28-10 loss to #5 Iowa State on Jan. 5 that Arizona State coach Zeke Jones let his Sun Devil squad know that he wasn’t satisfied with their fight or their toughness.

This college wrestling season hasn’t exactly started the way Arizona State would have liked.

The D1 NCAA landscape went through a seismic shakeup last week as six teams announced their departure from the Pac-12 Conference. While the fallout from this round of college realignment is not finished, what is certain is that Zeke Jones feels confident that Arizona State's move from the Pac-12 to the Big 12 conference will be a positive for the wrestling program.

In 2021, Brandon Courtney was an NCAA finalist, and Richie Figueroa was America's top overall recruit. The plan was simple, Figueroa would redshirt, and Courtney would finish his senior year then hand the torch to Richie. Things got more complicated when the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility and extended Courtney's career into the 2022-2023 season.

USA Wrestling executive director Rich Bender has consistently called this a golden age for American wrestling. And if you look at the output at the senior international level — he’s right.

The countdown continues as FloWrestling releases its top 100 greatest American wrestlers of all time. The inaugural episode was released on November 4 and will end with the announcement of the greatest wrestler of all time on January 10, 2022.

Arizona State coach Zeke Jones restructured his coaching staff Tuesday, moving Mark Perry into a full-time role with the Sunkist Wrestling Club and bringing in Eric Thompson to fill his place as the volunteer assistant with the Sun Devils.

The Pac-12 conference is filled with traditional programs. Even though the power five schools headline it, Pac-12 affiliates have provided a strong foundation for the conference too.

Arizona State brought a title to the desert for the first time since 1995. Although they took home a fourth-place team title, they captured it in the first Post-Zahid season. Despite losing Zahid and the former number one recruiting class, the young core surprised the country at the NCAA tournament.  

From his chair in the Arizona State corner, Zeke Jones saw an aggressive wrestler working to get to his attacks against a backpedaling opponent.

After National Signing Day, Arizona State claimed another top-five recruiting class, including four highly talented recruits. Number one pound-for-pound wrestler Richard Figueroa and top-five recruit Cael Valencia headlined the class.
