For the first Final X card of 2022, Greco-Roman is giving the people a generous gift in the form of five returning World Team members as well as three rematches from last year’s Trials.

Thomas Gilman vs Vito Arujau is blossoming into one of my favorite senior-level domestic rivalries in the sport. Back in 2017 at a bar in Waverly, Iowa, Gilman said talked about how a "rivalry" that is one-sided isn't a rivalry at all. With Gilman owning the series 3-0, this would imply that it isn't much of a rivalry. While I somewhat agree with Gilman, I still can't wait to see these two go to war at Final X. Gilman will once again be a heavy odds-on favorite to win, but I'm not counting Vito out.

With the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in our rearview mirror, next stop is Final X presented by Tezos. The first edition will be Friday in Stillwater, followed by the second edition next Wednesday in New York.

America's best wrestlers will put it on the line at two Final X events in the upcoming days. While some are still in college, most have wrapped up their collegiate careers. Take a look at who your favorite team is sending to each Final X event and how they did below! Just because a wrestler doesn't have a college listed, doesn't mean they didn't go to school, just that they didn't compete for a school. Most who don't have a school attended Northern Michigan University and trained at the Olympic Training Site.

Jordan Oliver and Zain Retherford will meet at Final X presented by Tezos on June 3 for the right to represent Team USA at the world championships at 70kg. The two are no strangers on the mat and have met 6 times in a rivalry dating back to 2015. In preparation for their upcoming Final X showdown, get caught up on their past battles below.

The semi-finals at the World Team Trials will take place on Sunday, May 22 at 11:00 am (ET) and will decide Final X spots for 16 weights across men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle, and Greco-Roman. The Final X era of the World Team Trials Challenge tournament has a brief but memorable history. A tournament was held in 2018 and 2019 to determine which wrestlers would face each other for the World team spot in each weight class. The format was scrapped for the 2021 World Team Trials since the Olympics were held the same year due to the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games.

The 2022 World Team Trials are set to go down in Coralville, Iowa May 21-22. This tournament will set the top two wrestlers at every weight who will wrestle-off for the world team spot in June at Final X. Seeds for the trials likely won't be released until a few days prior to the tournament, but because of its importance, we decided to predict what the top 7-8 seeds at each weight will look like.
