It's hard to overstate how much exciting college wrestling took place this past weekend. All seven conferences held their championships over the last few days and determined the majority of the qualifiers for the 2024 NCAA Championships that will take place in less than two weeks in Kansas City, Missouri.

During NC State’s 20-12 dual win over Virginia Tech last Friday night, The College Wrestling Report “X” account (the former Twitter) sent out a tweet that Jakob Camacho scored an upset win over Cooper Flynn at 125 pounds. To which, Wolfpack associate head coach Adam Hall quote tweeted “Don’t call is an upset; call it a comeback.”

The last set of regular season upsets from the 2023-24 NCAA D1 college wrestling season is here! The usual caveats apply, in particular it worth keeping in mind that results that look like upsets now may not look like upsets after the NCAA tournament!

There was a fairly substantial amount of upsets in the eighth week of the 2023-24 NCAA D1 wrestling season.

The 125-pound class appears to be wide open following the graduation of three wrestlers who reached the NCAA tournament finals at least once. Most notable is Iowa’s three-time NCAA champion Spencer Lee who transcended the sport with his masterful top game and his ability to score points in bunches.

The last three years of NCAA wrestling have been anything but typical and the next few seasons are primed to stay on the peculiar end of the spectrum thanks to the extra year of eligibility granted to every wrestler who participated in the 2021 season.

The 2022 World Team Trials are set to go down in Coralville, Iowa May 21-22.
