A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Ikei won a Hawaii state title in 2018 after finishing third in 2017. Ikei was a two time Fargo All - American, winning cadet and junior titles in Hawaii along the way. Ikei was third at the cadet world team trials in 2017 and returned in 2018 to claim a spot on the cadet world team with a title at the trials. Ikei won the cadet Pan Am championships that same year and finished with a bronze at the junior world championships.
