Despite being a newcomer to the senior level, Tevanyan was able to qualify Armenia for the Tokyo Olympics at Men's Freestyle 65 kg through winning the 2021 European Olympic Qualification tournament. He also won gold at the same weight in the 2020 Individual World Cup.
