A native of Frankfort, Illinois, Thompson was a runner up at the Fargo junior freestyle nationals in the summer of 2021. Thompson has seen success going back to an early age winning titles on the schoolboy level. Thompson won the Tulsa nationals, and was a double champ at the Illinois freestyle and greco state tournament. Thompson also won the AAU Eastern Grand nationals in all three styles in 2017.
