A native of Johnston, Iowa, Price was a four time all - state wrestler finishing third in three of his four high school seasons. Price finished his high school career as Johnston high schools wins leader after compiling a record of 182-22. Price was also a Fargo All - American during his high school career. As a redshirt at South Dakota State, Price compiled a 20-8 record through open tournaments winning titles at the Buena Vista open and Ridgewater open.
