2023 Domestic Women's Freestyle Rankings

It’s that time of year when Senior women hit the mats on the big stages of USA Wrestling. The last ranking for Senior Women’s Freestyle was in August of 2022, so it’s been a little while. A lot has happened since then and these rankings will reflect that as we head into qualifying season. Women’s Nationals is coming up in a few weeks April 14-16, followed by the U.S. Open April 27-30. Of course, all eyes are on Senior World Team Trials in May and Final X in June, when this year’s Senior World Team will be decided. This list gives us a glimpse at the contenders at each weight.

A few notes:

1. Adeline Gray is back and entered in the U.S. Open at the end of April. It will be interesting to watch her return, especially in the deepest weight of the tournament, 76 kg. Besides Gray, this weight features Kylie Welker, Yelena Makoyed, Kennedy Blades, Dymond Guilford, Precious Bell, and Skylar Grote.

2. International results provided some insight (i.e. Makoyed over Guilford in Tunisia last July), but we gained the most information from the women's college season. The NAIA and NCAA national championship events provided plenty of relevant data to tell us who the top Senior-level women currently are.

3. Some women are changing weights for the domestic USAW circuit. We became aware of this through recent results, info passed along from coaches and athletes, and U.S. Open entries.

4. Some names have been taken out of rankings due to injuries, life changes, or retirement. For example, multiple-time World Teamer Victoria Francis recently announced her retirement. Meanwhile, other names have been added back in, like the aforementioned Gray at 76 kg and 2017 Junior World Champion Maya Nelson at 59 kg, who is also entered in the U.S. Open. Unless we’re informed otherwise, these rankings reflect the information we have at our disposal.
