2023-24 National Girls High School Wrestling Rankings

Pound-For-Pound

USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum has published the Preseason Rankings for high school girls wrestlers for the 2023-24 season. This national ranking evaluates all girls enrolled in grades 8-12, and athletes from all 50 states are eligible for selection.

Last year’s high school graduates have been removed, and many new athletes have joined the rankings for the first time, including eligibility for incoming eighth graders.

The event which clearly had the most impact on these rankings was the record-setting 2023 USMC Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D. in July. The rankings also included the U17 and U20 World Championships, the U15 Pan American Trials, and the launch of the new season, FloWrestling’s Who’s Number One. Other top early events that impacted rankings were the Ultimate Club Duals and the Journeymen Fall Classic.

This year, the weight classes for the rankings have been changed to the new USA Wrestling weight classes, which include the current National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) girls wrestling weight classes, plus an additional weight class, 95 pounds. There will now be 15 weight classes with rankings, instead of the previous 14 weight classes.

With the new season comes eight new No. 1 wrestlers in the rankings. They include Epinesa Elison of California (100), Clare Booe of Florida (110), Gabriella Gomez of Illinois (115), Isabella Marie Gonzales of California (120), Taina Fernandez of Maryland (130), Kaydence Gerg of Idaho (140), Nebi Tsarni of Maryland (145) and Erica Cobos of Texas (235).

Seven wrestlers who finished last season ranked No. 1 have returned and start the new season in the No. 1 spot again: Morgan Turner of Illinois (95), Audrey Jimenez of Arizona (105), Everest Leydecker of Arizona (125), Valerie Hamilton of Illinois (135), Jasmine Robinson of Texas (155), Piper Fowler of Tennessee (170) and Sabrina Nauss of Michigan (190).

The Pound-For-Pound (P-4-P) rankings were also updated. U.S. Senior National champion and 2023 U20 World medalist Audrey Jimenez, a senior from Arizona (105), remains the No. 1 in the P-4-P, after holding the position for the entire 2022-23 season. Rounding out the top five are No. 2 Piper Fowler of Tennessee (170), No. 3 Morgan Turner of Illinois (95), No. 4 Jasmine Robinson of Texas (155) and No. 5 Sabrina Nauss of Michigan (190).

The next National Girls High School Ranking will be in November, after a series of major pre-season events, including, the USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals, Super 32, a number of all-star cards, plus other large early season competitions.

Coaches, parents and athletes are encouraged to provide information about specific athletes and their achievements throughout the year for the committee to consider. If they have information on specific girls who should be considered for ranking or updates on their achievements, please send it by email to girlsrankings@usawrestling.org.

The quality of these rankings continue to improve as people choose to share updated information.

Please note, the committee is only ranking 12 athletes at the new 95-pound weight class at this time. The committee will conduct more research in order to expand the number of ranked athletes in following releases. Parents and coaches are encouraged to send in recommendations for girls to rank at 95 pounds. All must be in eighth grade or above for the 2023-24 season. Send all 95-pound nominees to girlsrankings@usawrestling.org.

Also coming up this fall will be the Preseason National Girls High School Team rankings. Watch for more details.
