2023-24 Pound-For-Pound Women's College Rankings
Post-season pound-for-pound women's college rankings are here with several changes. Unlike individual weight class rankings, pound-for-pound rankings consider an extended body of work, signature wins, recent wins, and an overall evaluation of the season.
McKendree's Emma Bruntil competed in her first tournament of the season and was defeated in the regional finals by Iowa's Reese Larramendy. Bruntil, a 2020 and 2021 NCWWC champion, would have been ranked #1 had she competed all season but she enters at #4 in the post-regional rankings. She is a 2023 Senior World teamer who has won multiple ranking series tournaments and has wins over Senior World medalists.
Larramendy is rewarded for her win over Bruntil by moving from #25 to #18.
McKendree's Cam Guerin has losses to teammate Shelby Moore (US Nationals) and King's Victoria Baez Dilone (National Duals) this season but she is rewarded for winning three consecutive NCWWC titles. Her track record in the post-season is why she is ahead of Moore and Baez Dilone.
Moore took a loss to Taylor at 123 but has wins over Guerin and North Central's Amani Jones. Taylor took a loss to teammate Brianna Gonzalez in the regional finals and Gonzalez lost to North Central's Sydney Petzinger.
Samara Chavez (King) is ranked #6 for reaching the finals of the 2023 U.S. Nationals with a pin over four-time NCWWC champion Emily Shilson and for making the U.S. National team with a pin over Felicity Taylor. Jaslynn Gallegos, who defeated Chavez during the 2023 NCWWC finals but lost to Iowa's Ava Bayless, is ranked #19. She gets high marks for winning two college national titles and for placing in the top four on five separate occasions (WCWC and NCWWC).
Nwachukwu and Welker are neck-and-neck for the top spot but the William Penn star gets the nod for reaching Final X more recently and for winning two NAIA titles. Makoyed finished #1 last season but suffered straight losses to Welker, which is why she's #3.
Deede is a returning national champion who reached the U.S. National finals at 76 kg late last year.
