NCAA Rankings 2017-18

141: More Than Meets The Eierman

There was turbulence once again in college's most transforming weight class. Two-time national champion Dean Heil took two more shocking losses this season, one to Jaydin Eiermen, who bumps up to #3, and one to Ian Parker, who enters the weight class from 133. Parker takes over a spot in the top 20 vacated by Kanen Storr now that Storr is done for the season.

Parker's victory causes Heil to fall below Brock Zacherl and Nick Lee, through Heil still has enough on his resume to maintain the #7 spot, despite the four uncharacteristic losses he's taken this season. Heil now has as many losses on the season as the top five ranked wrestlers do combined.

Yianni Diakomihalis drops a spot not because he lost but because Eierman now matches (or surpasses) him in top tier wins and owns a head-to-head victory. Mason Smith drops from #9 to #6 also not due to a loss but because of a reassessment of his season's record. Smith's best wins and worst losses are — as the weight class has transmogrified — now inferior to those of Josh Alber, hence the move down the rankings.

The turnover continues further down the table. Chad Red slides under Cole Weaver, and Nick Zanetta falls below AC Headlee, after the formers took losses to the latters.
