This is our way too early look at the Big 12 conference rankings. I reached out to every coach via email for potential starters for their team. I got a response from seven of the twelve coaches. If things change and I get updated roster information from any coach I will happily release an updated conference ranking. Remember, true freshman without relevant matches against college competition will start at the bottom of the rankings. This probably hurt Northern Colorado the most since they have some true freshman that I expect to climb the rankings. I also ranked Daton Fix but would not be at all surprised if he took an Olympic Redshirt this season.
It's also important to note that the coaches that responded let me know that nothing is set in stone and there can and probably will be changes as we get closer to the season. Coaches in some cases gave me more than one wrestler for a weight but I had to make the call to rank only one. In the cases where two wrestlers were given to me and one was a true freshman I listed the experienced wrestler. hat being said, don’t be surprised to see some true freshman starting come the start of the season.
It was also hard to rank guys like David Carr who had a great redshirt season but didn’t wrestle anyone he is being ranked against. Carr is a guy that I expect to be battling for All-American honors at the end but since this is a ranking and not a prediction he comes in at #4 in the preseason rankings. Iowa State fans should count on more team points from him at the conference tournament.
