2020-21 Domestic Rankings - Women's Freestyle
62 Kilograms
1. There are no new #1’s, but there was still a big shake-up at 50 kg, 57 kg, and 76 kg. All three weights had upsets at Senior Nationals. Take a look!
2. Some young names are making their debut in our top 10 rankings. Sugey Ceja from Tiffin University cracks the list for the first time at #10, Xochitl Mota-Pettis of Rise Wrestling and Cheyenne Sisenstein from King University are in at 57 kg — Mota-Pettis is #8 and Sisenstein is #10 — and Tristan Kelly from Betterman Elite Wrestling lands at #10 at 76 kg after her performance at Senior Nationals.
3. Keep in mind, these are Olympic weights. That means there are a number of weight classes converging together from 10 to 6, creating competitive depth. There are many wrestlers who are in the top 10 at their weights in non-Olympic years, but fell out of the top 10 in this ranking.
4. At 57 kg, we left Alli Ragan at #2 even though she took a loss to Mota-Pettis at Senior Nationals. Her only domestic loss in recent years was to Helen Maroulis, and that only 2-2. However, Mota-Pettis did crack the top 10 at #8. Also, Lauren Louive, the 2020 Senior Nationals champ, is back into the top five after falling out when the classes converged and a DNP last December at Senior Nationals 2019. None of the wrestlers ahead of her in the ranking competed at the 2020 event a few weekends ago.
5. Keep in mind that there were many athletes in our top 10 that did not compete at Senior Nationals for various reasons. Some are waiting to compete until Olympic Trials; some are still social distancing; many in college were not able to compete for compliance reasons. For example, though NCAA athletes could compete for a club, many college women currently involved in NCAA programs did not have the funding they would normally have since this event fell out of the official competitive season.
6. We made some adjustments based on feedback and new info that came to our attention. Thank you to all those that responded to our first ranking respectfully and with solid information.
