2020-21 National Girls HS Rankings Presented By ASICS

100

USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum has published its fourth national rankings for high school girls wrestlers for the 2020-21 season.

This ranking evaluates all girls enrolled in grades 8-12, and athletes from all 50 states are eligible for selection.

It has been a busy time in girls high school wrestling, with numerous states completing their season and hosting their girls state championships.

As of this week, the following states have already hosted their official state sanctioned championships, or their unofficial recognized state championships: Virginia, Kansas, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Ohio, Utah, North Dakota, Florida, Montana, Idaho, Georgia, Nebraska, South Carolina, Iowa, Alabama and Indiana. The results from these state tournaments had major impact on this month’s rankings. There were also some big open high school events held during the month.

A number of other states are holding their high school seasons, with more state tournaments to come in March. Others have delayed their high school season until spring, and some states may not hold a high school state championships this year.

Please note that the weight where athletes competed at their state tournament is being used for the weight class where they are being ranked. With that in mind, there is a considerable amount of changes and movement in this month’s rankings.

There are two new No. 1 wrestlers in this ranking: Nyla Valencia of California (106) and Sabrina Nauss of Michigan (180).

The 112-pound weight class has become jammed with stars, as some athletes moved up into the class, while others moved down into the weight. The top four wrestlers in this current ranking have been No. 1 at some time in the recent past: No. 1 Samara Chavez of Texas, No. 2 Olivia Shore of Ohio, No. 3 Mia Palumbo of Illinois and No. 4 Sage Mortimer of Utah.

The start of the traditional spring wrestling season will also get underway in March. Two major USA Wrestling events will have a significant impact on the next ranking. The High School National Recruiting Showcase (which will feature freestyle) and the USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle Nationals will both be held in Coralville, Iowa back-to-back from March 26-28.

Coaches, parents and athletes are encouraged to provide information about specific athletes and their achievements throughout the year for the committee to consider. If they have information on specific girls who should be considered for ranking or updates on their achievements, please send it by email to girlsrankings@usawrestling.org. As noted in the past, head-to-head matches, especially in matches featuring ranked wrestlers, will be extremely helpful to the committee. The quality of these rankings continue to improve as people choose to share updated information.
