USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum have released the June 2022 rankings for high school girls wrestlers for the 2021-22 season. This national ranking evaluates all girls enrolled in grades 8-12, and athletes from all 50 states are eligible for selection.
This is the final ranking for the 2021-22 academic year. The next national ranking will be in the fall, and will include the results from the 2022 USMC Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D., and will also have all the graduated seniors taken out. In this final ranking, there are 30 athletes in each weight class honored.
This ranking included many major national events including the USA Wrestling Women’s Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas, the National High School Recruiting Showcase in Las Vegas, Nev., the Junior National Duals in Tulsa, Okla., the Journeymen World Classic in Troy, N.Y., and many other outstanding competitions.
Based on these major events, there have been numerous changes in both the Pound-For-Pound (P-4-P) rankings, as well as the individual rankings at each weight class.
There is a new #1 in the P-4-P, as Senior World Team member and Final X champion Amit Elor of California has taken over the top spot. The top three wrestlers in the P-4-P are all at the 164-pound weight class, with Elor at #1, Kylie Welker of Wisconsin at #2 and Kennedy Blades of Illinois at #3. Rounding out the top five in the P-4-P are Audrey Jimenez of Arizona at #4 and Shelby Moore of Washington at #5. There are seven athletes in the final P-4-P rankings who were not in the Top 25 in the last P-4-P ranking in March.
Likewise, there are five new #1-ranked wrestlers in the individual weight classes. Nyla Valencia of California at 112 pounds, Katie Gomez of California at 117 pounds, Savannah Cosme of Colorado at 132 pounds, Skylar Hattendorf of New Hampshire at 138 pounds and Destiny Rodriguez of Oregon at 152 pounds.
