A few notes:
1. Emma Bruntil shocked the college wrestling world when she left back-to-back national champion program McKendree a few months ago, a place where she’d won two individual national titles, for a new chapter in her life. Since then, she’s been busy on the USA Wrestling scene, including a title and win over #1 Forrest Molinari at the prestigious Yariguin Grand Prix tournament in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. With the win, Bruntil takes over the #1 spot at 65 kg, and became only the seventh U.S. woman in history to win the event.
2. The college scene has provided plenty of data as many top college and Senior level women have faced off in events like the NWCA National Duals, the Bearcat Open, or other college competitions.
3. Besides Bruntil taking over the #1 spot, there’s a big shakeup at 65 kg from top to bottom. King’s Ashlynn Ortega avenged a loss to Augsburg freshman sensation Katie Lange at NWCA National Duals to climb ahead of her in the rankings to #5 while Lange falls to #6. Meanwhile, Alara Boyd, previously in the rankings at 68 kg, has been consistently competing at 143 (65 kg) and moves down into that list at #4. Campbellsville’s Emma Walker also moves into the top 10 at #9.
4. Some college freshmen who have been making waves on the college scene have now hit the Senior rankings after some big wins. King’s Montana Delawder cracks the top 10 at 59 kg at #10 after her shocking win over McKendree’s Cameron Guerin at National Duals (Guerin’s first college loss). Life University freshman hammer Salyna Shotwell also hit list at #9 at 57 kg. 62 kg features the appearance of Cameroon immigrant Nina Makem at #8, a freshman at Augsburg, who took out King’s Ana Luciano at National Duals 6-0. At 76 kg, Grand View freshman Abby McIntrye climbed to #7.
