The Ivan Poddubny tournament was filled with Russia’s best in a bracket that included world and Olympic Champ Zaurbek Sidakov, 2019 world champion David Baev, 2020 World Cup champion Razambek Zhamalov, and 2022 Yarygin champ Cherman Valiev. Sidakov proved he’s still the king at 74kg and came out with gold after defeating #7 Cherman Valiev, #18 Azamat Nurikov, and #5 David Baev. Of the contenders, David Baev had the most notable showing by defeating Razambek Zhamalov, 6-5 in the semi-finals. Despite taking losses, Zhamalov and Valiev came back to take bronze.
Jason Nolf holds his spot at #8 in the rankings after winning the world team trials challenge tournament with a win over David Carr and two over Joey LaVallee. Nolf will now wrestle #2 Kyle Dake on June 8 at Final X.
