Viktor Rassadin won the Ivan Poddubny tournament after defeating #13 Anzor Zakuev and #12 Ruslan Bogatyrev. Rassadin then received a forfeit in the finals to #5 Ruslan Zhendaev. Though he did forfeit, Zhendaev had an outstanding tournament with wins over #6 Israil Kasumov and #7 Kurban Shiraev. Ruslan Bogatyrev may have lost to Rassadin, but he came back for bronze and moves into the rankings after defeating #13 Anzor Zakuev. 

At the world team trials, Jordan Oliver and Zain Retherford made Final X and will meet on June 3 in Stillwater for a spot on the world team. Retherford knocked off Doug Zapf and formerly ranked Alec Pantaleo to earn his spot. Oliver moves into the rankings after defeating Sammy Sasso and Ryan Deakin. Though Pantaleo has past wins over Oliver, he failed to place at trials after losing to the aforementioned Sasso and drops out of the top 20.
