The Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational has been packed with landscape shifting upsets. One of the most recent, and perhaps the unexpected, occurred in the semifinals at 165 lbs when Cornell's two-time round-of-12 finisher Julian Ramirez took out Iowa State NCAA champion David Carr.

Lorenzo Norman was a bit of an unknown at the NCAA level entering the 2023 CKLV. That changed when Norman, who entered the tournament with a 1-0 record, beat high-powered Oklahoma State freshman Brayden Thompson in his opening bout and followed that up with a 4-2 victory over 2021 NCAA champion Shane Griffith.
Bryce Andonian vs Meyer Shapiro may have been the most anticipated second-round match in the history of the Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational. Andonian, seeded #3, is a two-time All-American for Virginia Tech, while Shapiro, seeded #14, is a promising true freshman and the winner of two age-level World Championships.
