2019-20 NCAA DI Rankings
133 Gross Pointe Blank
Giving wrestling fans a potential preview of how ferocious the bloodround might get at the NCAAs in March, Reece Witcraft defeated All-American Montorie Bridges, Taylor LaMont besting Cam Sykora, and Tavis Piotrowski decked Sammy Alvarez.
Everyone outside the top seven, the spot occupied by Piotrowski, have losses to lower-ranked wrestlers, so there is going to be disagreements as to who goes where, however, they all remain contenders for All-American honors. We moved Bridges down to #10 and LaMont up to #12. Ridge Lovett, who beat LaMont but lost to Bridges at the CKLV, remains sandwiched in between.
Sykora does not have a win over anyone ranked higher, like Alvarez' win over Phillippi, to keep him above LaMont, and his fall brings Devan Turner, who is in a similar situation, down with him.
Witcraft has multiple unranked losses to keep him from climbing higher than 18th, below Jack Skularcyzk, who beat Witcraft just a couple of weeks ago. Allan Hart beat Witcraft last week, so Witcraft's rise pulls Hart up too. Hart is stopped below Tim Rooney, who beat Hart four weeks ago. All of which is why we consider the last spot or two on the 133-pound podium to be very much up for grabs.
