Thomas Gilman drops a spot to #2 after losing to Horst Lehr at the ranking series tournament in Tunisia. Despite the loss to Lehr, Gilman defeated 2021 world silver medalist Alireza Sarlak, keeping him from dropping further.

Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Ravi Kumar takes the top spot and will likely be the biggest threat to Gilman's chances of repeating as world champion. Kumar was opposite the bracket in Tokyo at the Olympics and is currently set to be on the bottom side as the #2 seed with Gilman as the #1.
