2020-21 Wisconsin High School Rankings
2020-21 Wisconsin High School Rankings: 285
Heavyweight was, beyond a doubt, the strangest weight in Wisconsin last season. All 25 wins in the Division 1 state bracket were by seniors. The five underclassmen who qualified in the biggest division went a combined (0-7). Meanwhile, the Division 2 state champ (Gabe Wertel) wrestled at 195 in early February and beat guys in both the semis and finals (Logan Peterson and Tony Matti) who had wrestled at 220 during the season. In Division 3, the runner up Wade Stanger went (44-5) with all five losses coming to his finals opponent, Tanner Gaffney, each by three or fewer points.
The ordering of the top guys was fairly simple, with the aforementioned Stanger slotting after Gaffney. Michael Douglas owns two wins over Trevor Daffinson, who in turn owns a win over Kyle Kroll. Kroll and Spencer Karban split their two matchups, but Kroll edges him with slightly better wins and less questionable losses.
From there, Kristian Schlicht, Jay Hanson and Patrick McDonald had rock-paper-scissors results, with McDonald beating Schlicht, Schlicht beating Hanson, and Hanson taking three of five from McDonald. Schlicht's nine wins over state qualifiers moved him to the head of the group. Nick Kohn slots in ahead of Hanson and McDonald as well, thanks to only having two losses to non-state finalists. Robert Beese, Shaq Harrell, and Griffin Empey all had cases nearly equal to Hanson and McDonald.
