As most know, FloWrestling likes to experiment with new and creative things to mix things up and challenge the often stale, often imperfect aspects of our sport.

I was excited to read and ponder Willie's betting lines for Who's #1. As a wrestling junkie, I love looking at things through that handicapping lense for a variety of reasons. Looking at it through a handicapped lense makes you think and look much deeper. Yes, Nick Reenan may win, but by how much? Who is a fast starter? Will either fade late? What role will size play in his ability to score as many points? The handicaps and betting lines cause you to ask questions you wouldn't normally consider when you simply ask: 'Who wins?'
Let's have a little FloFun.

.post-content img { padding: 10px; } Just like the competitors at Who's #1, our coaches are some of the best as well. For this year's event we have Jody Strittmatter of Young Guns, who's making his third appearance in the corner, and Chad Erikson of Minnesota Elite.

.post-content img { padding: 10px; } Nick Reenan will never back down from a challenge. It’s just not in his nature to pass anything up. The crazy thing about it is that he’s dominating his opponents each time he steps on the mat and size never matters. So with his ascent to 195-pounds this season it’s no question that he’s the top guy in the country at the weight. His biggest test however, lies ahead, and it will not be easy when he faces Sammy Colbray at Who’s #1 on October 17th. Colbray is a very strong wrestler that can attack with the best of ‘em. He’s going to be a lot for Reenan to handle in his 195-pound debut. Reenan doubled up on Fargo titles at 182 this summer for the second time in his career as Colbray was a runner-up in Freestyle and Greco at 195.

.post-content img { padding: 10px; } What a difference a year makes. For Dakota Geer a year of improvements took him from the bottom of the podium to the top at FloNationals. Couple that with the Pennsylvania state title that he won just a few weeks prior and it proved that he is the man to beat at 182-pounds coming into this season. But does he have what it takes to defend that spot against Beau Breske, who has shown to be one of the best at 170. Breske is making the move up to 182 after claiming another Fargo title and will now look to take over as the top dog when he takes on Geer at Who’s #1 on October 17th.
.post-content img { padding: 10px; } Gable Steveson has wanted the number one spot for a long time and now that he has it, it’s going to take a serious force for him to be knocked off. That serious force could come in the form of Jordan Wood, the former number one guy at the weight. Steveson and Wood met at Cadet and University Nationals with Steveson winning by a pretty dominant 8-1 score before claiming the title and the spot on the Cadet World Team. But don’t let that slanted score fool you, Wood is a very game opponent with just as much experience on the World level as Steveson, who is fresh off a Cadet World title run. Both these guys are true hammers that can’t wait to prove they are the #1 guy at 220-pounds. Though there are a few years between them, their resumes are very similar. Both have state titles in their respective states along with Fargo titles and World finals appearances.

.post-content img { padding: 10px; } Neighboring states clash hard here as Cadet World Champ Jarod Verkleeren, of Pennsylvania, looks to defend his #1 ranking against New Jersey’s Kyle Bierdumpfel.

.post-content img { padding: 10px; } The man involved in the longest match in high school history that had everyone in the Snakepit on the edge of their seats will be returning to Who’s No. 1 again this year. Daton Fix is back to take on Rudy Yates at 126-pounds. Fix, who just claimed bronze at the Cadet World Championships, is currently the #2-ranked pound-for-pound wrestler in the country. We’ve seen him dominate the field at Fargo and defeat Junior World Champ Spencer Lee at the Cadet and University National tournament. Now, he looking to get his first WNO victory.

.post-content img { padding: 10px; } Imagine this. You’ve four guys. Between them they’ve won five Super 32 titles, three FloNational titles, a few state titles and a couple Fargo stop signs to go along with it. Oh yeah, and one of them just won a Cadet World title. So, who should be the #1 guy? Don’t know? Well lucky for us they will settle it themselves on October 17th in the Snakepit at Who’s No. 1. At 132-pounds it’s a crazy logjam of talent all hovering around the top. Current No. 1 guy Chad Red, who finished his season with a Super 32 belt on his shoulder, will look to retain his top spot against Yianni Diakomihalis, Taylor LaMont and Luke Pletcher. Whoever comes out of the mix undefeated will become the man to beat at 132. Yianni D looked phenomenal in Bosnia as he claimed the title in his first World Championship tournament appearance. As the tournament went on he seemed to get stronger. His attacks are pretty fierce and we all saw that cradle. Could Yianni D be the man with the total package to take the top spot? Maybe, but not if Red has a say in the matter.

.post-content img { padding: 10px; } We saw them meet in Greco, then we saw them go at it the following day in Freestyle, and now it’s time to complete the trilogy. Top-ranked Fargo Champ Hayden Hidlay will put his number one ranking on the line against Cadet World Champ Mason Manville at Who’s No. 1. Last year at this time Manville held the top spot (at 160), but after dropping his finals match to Alex Marinelli at Ironman, he fell in the rankings. Recently, it became official that Manville will sport the powder blue and navy singlet for Wyoming Seminary this season, so reclaiming the number one spot at 152 could be quite a way to kick things off with his new team.
