Meet the Champions:

1A:    Tyson Waughtel - Carlyle, Freshman 52-0

2A:    Andrew Davis - Chatham-Glenwood, Sophomore 17-0

3A    Seth Mendoza - Chicago Mount Carmel, Freshman 39-2

Waughtel found gold in his freshman campaign with a 1A state title and perfect 52-win season. Davis, who was HM at 113, also earned a perfect season by edging #3 Casey in the semifinals and then adding a state title to his resume with a win over #10 Alanis. Both Waughtel and Davis climb the overall state rankings with a strong finish to their very impressive seasons.

However, there is no question that nationally-ranked Seth Mendoza remains the top 106-pounders in the state of Illinois. Mendoza tore through his bracket with three tech falls and an injury default to take the title and remain firmly in the top spot.  Mendoza remains undefeated in Illinois with his only losses coming at the Ironman tournament early in the season against nationally-ranked opponents.

Other storylines from 106 include HM Jessup defeating #4 Spacht to make the finals to earn a spot back in the overall rankings.
