Kettering Fairmont had some exciting results. Jayden Cochran would take home the gold for Miamisburg. However, former top 10 Jared Johnston would go 2-2, failing to make it to Columbus this upcoming weekend. He lost his second-round match to freshman Marshall Morency of Anderson, who lost to Cochran in the section and now district finals. He also beat Marengo of LaSalle, who would battle back to take third, beating a top 10 wrestler in Sears of Colerain.
Hoover also threw this weight through a loop. Wadsworth's Mellon and Mentor's Stropko should have attended the state tournament. Both wrestlers mentioned have been in the rankings almost all season or floated in the bubble. The only constant at Hoover was McBurney winning the title pinning three of his four opponents. Joseph Baumann proved his top 10 status becoming a 2x district champion pinning Backus of Marion Harding in the finals at Hillard Darby. Avalos also took out Sanderfer in his district final after Sanderfer took out former #1 Contos in the quarterfinals. All three will be battling at the state tournament.
